It's been a creative Saturday...

In addition to my Face a Day, I also finished up a gift for my nephew
He just turned two and he currently loves dinosaurs. I'm hoping this little (5"x7") drawing will make a cheerful addition to his room.

And a painting that a friend requested quite a long time ago--okay, I'll tell you, it was in December. :) Hopefully this portrait of her cat, Oreo, was worth the wait.

A Face a Day in May - No. 25, and IF - Faded

(Sharpie, Prisma markers, and Prisma color pencils)
I wondered if my interest in this project would have faded by now, but it hasn't. I'm actually enjoying "A Face a Day in May" so much I may continue it indefinitely.

A Face a Day in May - No. 24 and a Bonus

*(Quick note of this one: I drew her while watching a re-run of The Big Bang Theory. Her entire outfit is inspired by Amy Farrah Fowler).

We had a cake auction at church tonight to raise money for the Boy Scouts. I thought one of my little characters might be fun to put on the tag describing the cake.

Her sassy attitude helped this cake go for the highest dollar amount of the night--the triple chocolate helped too. :)

Quick Knitting Update - A Mother's Day Gift

I wanted to try the famous Ballband Washcloth using only one color. It's not quite as striking as the striped versions but still a great washcloth! These three were sent to my mom for Mother's Day. She uses them until they are threadbare and falling apart. I love when something I make is really used and appreciated!!

First Friday Art Class for May 2012 - Art Games and End of the Year Party

This is how we party! This was our last class of the (school) year so we played several fun art games.

We started off with Tag Team Drawing. You start the drawing on a page in your sketchbook and then we move seats every 30 seconds until you're back at your own sketchbook.

We got some really fun, creative drawings from this game!
Our next game is called Adjective, Adjective, Noun. I had strips of paper with adjectives on them and strips of paper with nouns. We'd draw two adjectives and one noun and then draw our pictures.
On our last round, we got a bit crazy and used all the adjectives we had left. This was our drawing prompt:
This game is great for sparking creativity and lots of laughter and silliness. Totally fun!

Our next game was one we played at our December class - Whatchamadrawit. This is a great game! It's so fun. We played a little differently this time. We had one person leave the room and those of us left drew what the card said. We then called the person back in and they had to guess what the drawing prompt was--no easy feat with cards that say things like "Draw a heart shaped flower sitting in a fish bowl balanced on a mermaid's nose". :)

Our last game was Sketch Artist. Where one of us would describe the "suspect" and the others would have to draw them. We got some amazing drawings out of this game!
We had a lot of fun this time. We've had a lot of fun all year. I'm going to miss seeing these little sweeties every First Friday! They are a great group of creative, sweet, fun, amazing girls!!
(And they're a bit silly too!)

From a While Ago...

In posting all these faces, I realized I never posted this fun little piece I did for a friend's daughter for her birthday last year.

This is the sweet birthday girl

I keep meaning to do some more of these. I even have a frame all ready to go. I need more studio time! My day job is getting in the way of my artistic endeavors. Anybody else have that problem? :)

A Face a Day In May - No. 1

I've been looking for some inspiration/motivation lately and this is what I came up with...A Face a Day In May.

I'll be drawing a face every day and posting them here. I'm working in a little spiral notebook that's around 5"x 7". I like the idea of working in a very non-intimidating, portable book. If I don't like one, I'll tear it out and start again.

Here's the first one:

Feel free to join me on your own "A (fill in whatever you'd like) a Day In May" drawing challenge! And remember to link back here so I can see them.
