EBSQ Ripped Off Show 2008

Kelly, 12" x 9", acrylic and collage on canvas

This is my entry for the EBSQ Annual Ripped Off Show this year. For this show you are partnered up with someone and do your take on one of their paintings. I was lucky enough to be partnered with a fantastic artist, Kris Jean. I love her work and I was so excited to work with her! "Kelly" is my take on her wonderful painting below.

This is Marjorie and she is so going out on the town tonight because her new haircut is fierce!

This is my entry for Illustration Friday this week. The theme this week is fierce.

New Trees

Just finished these up today. They are small (all around 6" x 2.5"). Not sure where they are headed yet but I wanted to give you a sneak peek.

***All trees have SOLD.***

How Cool Is This?

I got the idea for this on this website and my husband made it for me today. It makes me want to go buy more ribbon. You know I LOVE ribbon!

New Teacher Name Sign

This one is going in the mail on Monday. Name signs are available in my ETSY shop.

Made these for my niece. It's what all fashionable 8 month olds are wearing this season! :)

IF - Hoard

This is my entry for Illustration Friday this week. The theme is Hoard. You would not believe the hoard of paper scraps I have to create my folk art pieces. I have maps, menus, old books, pieces of cards people have sent me...you get the idea. I hoard paper about as much as I hoard ribbon.

Meredith is available now on ETSY.

*Update: Meredith has SOLD*

It's the 20th so It's Time for Nibblefest!

It Was Peaceful Here, 6.75" x 4.5", acrylic and collage on 3/4" MDF

Here is my Nibblefest Entry for June. The theme is "In The Mist". This painting is of three lovely flowers in the morning mist. The text says, "It was peaceful here". I used to live in the Midwest and I loved to see the beautiful morning mist. We don't get much mist here in the desert! :) Available now on e-bay!

This is also my entry for Mixed Media Monday. The theme is Places.

Sometimes I am a Little Bit (French) Country

Here's a fun new sign I just put in my ETSY shop. It's a chalkboard sign so you can write your own message and change it whenever you like! It'd be fun as a menu board in the kitchen or as a door "message" center. The sign is done on 3/4" MDF so it's super sturdy. 4" (6" if you count the handle) x 9".

Could I Be More Random?

It's not a Folk Art Lady or a Pop Art Person. It's a folk pop abstract. Sometimes I get in the mood for an abstract and this one was so much fun, I'm sure there's more to come. (I already have some color schemes in mind). I'll take better pictures outside tomorrow. But for now, here it is on my easel in the studio.

I can never think of names for my abstracts so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. So far it's called "Polka Dot Abstract". I know, wicked creative, huh?

A Fun Find

I just love this little necklace. I hope I win it on her blog!

Sylvia es caliente!

I've been having so much fun with my Folk Ladies. But I found myself sort of missing my Pop People so I worked on this painting (and the little tiny guy named Logan) along with the Folk Ladies and they all seemed to get along just fine. I can't seem to choose between the two styles and I guess I don't really have to, right?

Anyway, this is Sylvia and she is available on e-bay now.

Lookie What I Got!

Okay, well they are for my daughter. But how cute are these? I ordered them from cjscrochet on ETSY. They are amazing. The stitches are absolutely perfect!
I make socks, but these are Socks. She doesn't charge enough for them so order tons now before she decides to charge more!

In My ETSY Shop

These two ladies are in my ETSY shop now.
Sadie (the blond) is 6.25" x 4.5".
Meredith (and her hat) is 7.5" x 3". *Update: Meredith has SOLD*
Both are on 3/4" MDF so they can stand on their own (of course they can--they are strong, independent women!) :) or they can hang on the wall.

Now on E-bay!

Just listed this little one on e-bay with a super low starting bid! That light blue sky color is quickly becoming my favorite color. I dream about that color.

*SOLD*

Can You Say Type-O?

So the shipping price for this painting in my ETSY shop said it was $715. That's a little steep, don't you think? :) It has been corrected now. The actual shipping price is $15.

IF - Punchline

What? There is no punchline here. Just a girl with a bird on her head. Haven't you ever seen that before?

This is my entry for Illustration Friday this week. The theme is punchline.

She is in my ETSY shop now.

It's That Time Again

I just taught a class for church on how to make the beaded socks and, I don't know, I caught the bug again. Which is good since Peyton has grown out of all the ones I made her before. So since the class, I've bought a package of socks in Peyton's size and also in my two nieces' sizes and two bags of beads and some more thread.

A friend and I just thought of the "tutu" socks. How fun are they? I'm sure I'll be posting more pictures soon. I love projects like this that keep my hands busy.

Inspire Me Thursday - Finding Art in the Everyday

Sunny Side Up, 24" x 18, acrylics (available on ETSY)

Here is my entry for Inspire Me Thursday for this week. The theme is Art in the Everyday.

A Sneak Peak

Yesterday was the first day that the kids and I didn't have a ton of stuff to do. So I took it as a painting day. (I ignored all phone calls and everything--it was awesome!) I finished up several paintings that I have been working on whenever I could steal a minute since school got out. Here's a sneak peek. I'll do full posts on each later.
Except for the little heart one in the middle. That one was for my daughter who was my "studio buddy" all day. She was the creative consultant on that one. "Okay, mom. It needs polka dots. Now cut out words that say 'I Love You' and put them in the middle of the heart. Okay, this painting is for me to put in my room." It is in her room and when I went to get it so I could scan it for my portfolio, I noticed it has her "final touches" on it--everywhere. She splattered paint from her painting all over it. Now it a collaboration! :)

Yart Sale on ETSY

It's a play on the words "Yard Sale". Clever, right? :)

I am participating. I have several items marked down in my ETSY shop. Check it out if you get a chance.

Sale ends June 20th.

New Logo for Name Signs

I cannot even tell you how long this took me in Photoshop. I am no pro at Photoshop. So I know it's simple, but considering my VERY limited skills, it'll work.

P.S. Who invented Layers?!? Someone bent on torture, I think. First you can put stuff behind them, then you can't and everything goes away. It's like magic, bad magic. Okay, now I've really let you know how much I don't know about Photoshop.

Remember These???

Okay, not these exactly. But remember the Jingle Blocks I made at Christmastime? The other day I was just itching to make something with this fantastic paper and I thought, "Why wait for Christmas to make Blocks?" And viola!

I had so much fun with these. They are each 2.75" x 3" and have a gold hook and tulle on top. I'm calling them the Pretty In Pink Blocks. Because they are pink (obviously) but also because they have that funky Andie Walsh ("I have to show them that they didn't break me") feel to them. Right?

Anyway, they are in my ETSY store. There are four striped ones (Hope, Faith, Love, Wish) and three argyle ones (Believe, Friend, Dream). So they work alone or as a set. I really like the two styles mixed and matched together. Very sassy.

IF - Forgotten

This is my entry for Illustration Friday. The theme this week is FORGOTTEN. My yoga teacher always reminds us to "be present in the moment". This fun painting is my little play on that phrase--be present. (Get it? a bee and a present? I'm only explaining because it took my friend who will not remain nameless--Mindy--a long time to "get" this painting). =)

I think this concept of being in the moment and enjoying the journey is often forgotten by most people.

Lookie What I Got!

Look what I got in the mail this week. A wonderful package from BeadyEyeLass. Isn't the bunny the sweetest thing? And how much do I LOVE this jewelry set? I can't wait to wear in on August 30th when football season starts again. Go Bucks!!!

New Name Signs

Just finished these two this week. The first one was an order for a girl turning 16 who is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. The second is a teacher name sign order. Teacher signs and name signs are available in my ETSY shop.
