I have been studying the work of Mindy Lacefield and doing some of her online and printed (in her books--I have them all and they are wonderful!) classes. This painting is so inspired by her fun, whimsical style.

This painting is done using my Coloring Book Method. So I begin with the outline, done with a paint pen.

I then add in the mixed media elements--in this case magazine pages and scrapbook paper.

And a little bit more--I decided to make her eyes and lips really pop!

Then comes the paint. And after that, I go back in and clean up the outline lines, add ink elements, and some other details. And then, voila...

Sunday Sketches - 08/31/14

I'm nearing the end of this composition book and the wear and use is really starting to show. The outside edge is sort of dingy and smudged with graphite. There are water splotches.

I have loved this book and lugged it around for a long time. But I will admit I am ready for a fresh new book.

Sunday Sketches - 08/17/14

In my Sunday Sketches I like to practice different types of lettering, but I always seem to go back to faces. This has been the story of my art since I was a child. It always comes back to faces. I LOVE drawing faces!!

I've been binge watching re-runs of Will and Grace so as I was watching yet another episode tonight, I decided to draw them. I kind of need to figure out how to make my figures look a bit happier, but in this instance it sort of works. They have that edgy NY attitude going on. :)
