Triplets

I just finished these today. They are for some triplets who are soon to arrive. Their proud grandma ordered these signs from e-bay. Doesn't this color scheme make you think of ice cream? Okay, it doesn't take much to make me think of ice cream, but the browns, white and pink make me think of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream. Uh, hey isn't that called Neopolitan? :-) There is a tiny pink stripe that's hard to see in the picture of all three--I'll put in a pic of one of them alone and see if it's easier to see. I am in love with the color scheme!!

This is Julia (Acrylics, 12" x 9"). I painted her for the EBSQ online art show "Childhood: A Mixed Media Show". Didn't every little girl dream about being a princess when we were kids?
This painting combines paint and collage to create a fun, whimsical little gal!

A Few Things About Me

Here's a couple views into my sketchbook. I rarely begin a painting without first sketching it out in this book.

My painting apron is a Christmas cook's apron with little teddy bears on the trim. It's so ugly and it's covered in paint and I love it! :-)

I am very hard on my brushes so I don't buy the higher end ones because I know I'm going to trash them. Right now my favorite brush is one I've had since college and it's hammered, but I love it and will cry if I ever have to retire it.

This is how I lay out my pallet. And after a painting session, it looks like one big colorful mess.

I love my Prismas!! I like to see all my color options at once so I put them in this box and separated them by color.

I am obsessed with Sharpies. If I don't have at least 5 good tipped black ones in my studio, I start to go a little nutty!

March Nibblefest Painting - Secret Garden

I just put this fun little set of cards in my ETSY store. These cards are so cute! The front says "Ewe Are Loved" and has two very wooly sheep. The inside is left blank.

Today in Arts and Crafts Class

This is what we did for the last class of the term. First the kiddos painted their flower pots in lovely pastel colors. Most of them chose to add polka dots or stripes too. Then, we glued the Easter grass in. (I had already put floral foam in the pots.) The next thing they did was choose three buttons--a small, a medium and a large one. We then put them on green floral wire, put the two end of the wire in the chuck of my drill and turned it on while holding tightly to the buttons. It makes the stems really neat and tight. Last, we put the "flowers" in our pots.

I just finished this for my daughter's kindergarten teacher. She loves Minnie Mouse, thus the red and white polka dots. Won't this be a fun end-of-the-year gift? I can't wait to give it to her. Teacher plaques are available in my ETSY store.

Just got these all packaged up and ready for Monday's mail. The first two are for sisters (I assume--the woman who ordered them didn't tell me, but they do match). The second two are for some twins that will be born soon. Their cute mom ordered them from e-bay--the plaques, not the twins. :-)

My First ACEO's

An ACEO is an "Art Card Edition or Original". They are 2.5" x 3.5" usually done on paper so you can store them like you would baseball cards. When I first cut the paper I was shocked at how small they are. I don't usually work this small, but I had a blast doing these and I have several more in the works.

So here they are...my first ACEO's, but certainly not my last!

Arts and Crafts Class Today

We made these little cuties today. I first saw them years ago in Family Fun Magazine. Each child made one bunny and one chick. Although that was a little ambitious for an hour class. Next time I'd probably just do one or the other and then have them do a coloring page. (Note: The chick is simpler than the bunny.)

You start with wood beads. My local craft store only had wood knobs which only have a hole on one end that does not extend through the bead. But luckily my garage is full of saws and drills and other loud scary things so my woobie was able to drill holes in all 40 beads with nary a complaint--he's a trooper! I then glued the beads together--flat sides together--with the woobie's expensive super glue. (This invoked a small complaint.)

Last night I kept thinking these little ones are not going to be able to paint these without getting fingerprints all over the beads and paint all over themselves. Once again my woobie came to the rescue by making a little stand the kids could put their bead on. THIS WAS A LIFESAVER!

I brought lots of fun Easter colors to class and the kids painted the bodies whichever color they chose. Some chose to do the head a different color than the body, which turned out really cute!

For the bunny I found really fun extra fluffy pipe cleaners. You string two pipe cleaners (side by side) through the body and then fold the ears into shape and the feet into shape. (So one pipe cleaner is a foot and ear and the other pipe cleaner is the other foot and ear. Does that make sense?). We did glue tiny pom pom tails on too. The kids drew the face on with paint pens.

For the chick you fold a regular pipe cleaner in half and thread it through the body from the top and put a feather in the little top loop and pull it tight. Then you shape the bottom of the pipe cleaner into the two feet. The kids did the eyes with paint pens and the beak with a Sharpie.

These are both for friends at church who just had new baby boys. As always, these are available on ETSY and currently on e-bay. I haven't done this in the past, but I just thought these would be a great end-of-the-year gift for the kids' teachers to hang in their classrooms. I'll post pictures when I get them done.
